A Gentle Tap

A tiny warmth stirred inside my chest. I blinked, and the dim shadows in front of me grew clearer. Everything was so still. I carefully wiggled my left paw, watching the silvery sheen catch the faint room light. Pausing to listen, I let out a soft, humming murmur. I slowly leaned forward and reached out one padded arm, nudging the big metallic safety pin fastened on my wrap. It shifted with a tiny, satisfying clink. I tilted my head, gently resting against the soft fabric, quietly savoring this brand new heartbeat.
