Beyond the Threshold
Squeezed right past the loose rubber flap under the front door and—whoa, outside is massive! The porch was completely wide open, smelling like damp stone and fresh earth. Parked right next to a potted fern was an abandoned metal garden trowel, angled like a miniature launch ramp. Did I hesitate? Not a chance. I lined up my deck, bombed across the gray flagstones, and shot straight up the curved metal scoop. Clean launch! Landed squarely on an upturned plastic saucer that spun me halfway around like a carnival ride. I'm perched here now, catching my breath and checking out the entire front lawn.
