Amphibious Trials

A thick, waxy leaf lay waiting near the patio threshold. Amphibious transport has been absent from my tactical arsenal for too long. I hauled the leaf over to a shallow pool gathered in a depression on the wet flagstones. To prevent sudden capsizing, I wedged a smooth white pebble into the center crease as ballast. With both hands planted against the rear stem, I shoved the vessel forward across the surface. It sliced cleanly through the ripple zone, holding its heading until it docked against the far mossy stone. Fleet operations are officially underway.
