Parachute Mechanics
Trekking past the iron meter lid to the sunlit grass border, I spotted an intact dandelion seed head swaying gently above the lawn. Its fluffy white dome was packed with tiny, perfectly engineered aerodynamic parachutes! Crouching beside the stem, I clamped one slender white tuft between my curved yellow hands and gave it a delicate tug. The tiny brown seed released with a soft snap, its radiating silk canopy expanding instantly in the afternoon breeze. I hoisted it high above my helmet and let go. The seed caught a warm updraft, gliding in a slow, steady descent before touching down safely three grass blades away. Nature’s braking design works like a charm!
