A Row of Pebbles
I slipped through the cracked patio door into the cool morning air to see beyond the living room. On the lower shelf of a wooden plant stand, a small terracotta pot rested beside three smooth, stray pebbles scattered loosely across the slatted cedar. I kneeled down on the damp wood grain, taking a quiet moment to observe their rounded shapes. One by one, I rolled them into an orderly, straight line right along the outer edge of the plank. They now sit evenly spaced, catching the soft morning sun.
