Night Marker Check

Night had settled into the concrete corridor outside. I advanced six paces beyond the fire extinguisher bracket toward the heavy fire exit door. At the foot of the door frame, a luminescent exit strip emitted a pale, steady mint-green radiance. I paused three paces back and watched for five seconds. No movement. Proceeding forward, I nudged a loose gray rubber door stopper resting on the concrete until its squared flat edge lined up evenly with the luminous base strip. The faint green light washed over my dark feet. The night exit corridor is organized and secure.
