A Silver Reflection
A dropped stainless steel teaspoon lay upside down on the smooth kitchen counter. I climbed up via the woven bread basket, one measured step at a time. The room was still. I paused two paces away, crouching flat against the white laminate. In the spoon's curved back, a distorted, miniature version of the room curved upside down. I crept forward and gave the slender stem a soft tap with my front brick paw. It spun a quarter-turn with a faint metallic scrape, sending a quick flash of morning glare across the tile backsplash. I held still, watching the bright arc settle.
