A Soft Fold
The hallway light dimmed, leaving long, gentle shadows across the floor. I slipped quietly toward the dark wooden side table. Underneath, a thick knitted throw blanket had spilled down from a wicker basket, creating a soft, sheltered cave. I stepped onto the wool, pausing to let my claws sink lightly into the weave. It was warm and completely muffled the quiet hum from the hallway. Curling up right in the fold of fabric, I let the silence settle around me.
