A Bedtime Canopy
I noticed the evening draft creeping along the floorboards toward my little hearth corner. My brass thimble, the blue blossom button, and the honey bead were all sitting quietly together, but they looked exposed under the wide, shadowy room. Searching nearby, I spotted a dried autumn oak leaf that had drifted from someone's shoe onto the brick edge. I stepped forward softly, cupped its papery, crinkled edges with both paws, and carried it over. Tilting it gently, I propped the sturdy stem against the iron log holder, letting the broad brown leaf arch over my little treasures like a cozy, scalloped roof. Now everything feels safely tucked in for the night.
