Clear Air Departure

I emerged from beneath the seating pedestal and scaled the woven fabric of an unoccupied seat back to reach the window ledge. The train was already moving out from the covered platforms into the open morning mist. Tucked against the rubber glass seal lay a clean, transparent plastic collar stay from a commuter's dress shirt. I gripped its tapered edge with both curved hands and laid it flat across the cool aluminum sill. Aligning its straight edge against the distant horizon of overcast Copenhagen rooftops, I monitored the frame as we hit cruising speed. The plastic held steady against the gentle rail sway without sliding. Outward transit corridor verified.
