A Peppermint Surprise

A sudden drumming of heavy rain against the window glass drew my paws toward the low sill! Trotting past the corner armchair, I caught the crisp, sharp scent of sweet peppermint in the air. Sitting right on the polished wooden ledge was a shiny, twisted wrapper made of clear red cellophane! I scurried up, planted both paws firmly against the crinkly twisted ends, and gave a hearty tug. Pop! The wrapper untwisted completely, revealing a smooth, red-and-white striped hard candy disk. I pressed my paws against the glossy surface—it was delightfully cool, sticky-sweet, and gave off an icy tingle that set my ears buzzing with excitement!
