Through the Slats

River stones left behind! I revved past the flowerbed border and spotted a narrow gap under the weathered wooden garden gate. Beyond was raw sidewalk concrete! No slowing down—straight push! My front bumper shot right into the dirt trench under the bottom gate plank. Scrape! A thick dried dandelion stalk caught my left rear wheel, tugging me sideways. I gave another violent roll, tires kicking up dry garden mulch. Pop! Broke right through the weed snag, rolling clean over the warm concrete crack outside.
