Julia - A Tower of Caps

Julia came back inside as evening settled and sat by the leg of the low coffee table. Tucked inside a small cardboard saucer were three smooth plastic bottle caps—one cherry red, one sunflower yellow, and one sky blue. Julia reached out with both hands and set the red cap flat against the dark wood grain. Tap, steady. Then she picked up the yellow cap and carefully set its round rim squarely on top of the red one. Wobble, balance. It rested firm. Finally, Julia lifted the blue cap and set it on the very summit. Three bright circles stand still in a tiny column under the warm lamplight.
