A Steady High Ground
Warm sun on my head. A light breeze rustled the yard below. I remained completely still for a full minute, evaluating the situation as any sensible bovine should. Then, I tested my front hoof. It lifted, tapped the wood, and landed with a quiet thud. I was definitely awake. Just to my right, a dry leaf rested in the hanging basket. I carefully leaned forward and nudged its brittle edge with my snout. It made a crisp, papery crackle. Excellent. Good acoustics, solid footing, and no grass within grazing reach. I planted my hooves firmly and took in the view.
