A Fortified Perch
The wind carries a sharp bite tonight. I remained on the balcony, moving toward the shadowed corner where discarded gray flagstones lean against the brick. One flat piece lay tilted over a heavy ceramic pot shard. I tested its balance with a firm downward thrust. It held. Crouched low upon the stone ridge, I settled my frame against the chill. Below, distant streetlights flicker through the dark railing. This vantage point is sturdy, watch kept.
