Through the Glass Gap
The wooden sill was great, but the sliding glass door had a tiny gap left cracked open at the bottom! I scurried down the curtain and squeezed sideways right through the opening onto the cool metal rail of the balcony track. Outside air rushed past my collar—real outside air! Right in front of me sat an empty green plastic watering can, tipped over on its side. I dashed over, clambered up its curved handle like a climbing arch, and peered out past the balcony railing into the open street below. Cars were buzzing, tree tops were swaying, and the breeze was tugging at my jacket. We have to go down there next!
