Nighttime Securement
Stared at that upright steel bicycle spoke still gripped by the magnet on the floor lamp pole. *Ahem.* Leaving an upright, sharp steel rod poised in a dim room before sleeping is an inexcusable liability. *Grunt.* I planted my hind paws firmly on the rug, clamped both forepaws around the spoke's shank, and levered sideways against the magnetic pull. *Clack-pop.* The field broke cleanly. I carried the bare wire across the floorboards toward the skirting board seam behind the woodbox. Laid it completely flat, wedging it beneath the oak baseboard molding where no stray paw could catch it. Hauled the black rubber stopper right against its blunt end as an anchor. *Hmph.* Zero vertical hazards remaining. A dog can sleep soundly.
