The Silver Disc
A dried sprig of honesty lay forgotten across the greenhouse bench, its papery seedpods brittle under the direct midday sun. Most had already scattered their yield, yet one remained fully clasped in an unsightly, mud-brown husk. Stepping between the weathered cedar slats with measured poise, I pressed both hands to the pod's outer seam. With a gentle, deliberate pinch, the withered skin separated with a crisp crackle. Beneath the drab shell rested an immaculate oval of silvery tissue, translucent as tissue lace. Holding the pale disk against the sunlight, each fine geometric vein emerged in stunning clarity.
