Humming Strings
I crept toward the wooden guitar resting upright on its low floor stand in the corner. When I pressed the blunt curve of my forearm against the polished wood, the surface felt cool and taut. I paused, letting the room grow completely still, then leaned close and released a low, hollow hum straight into the dark circular opening. Deep inside the hollow body, the air vibrated back at me. Above, the thin metal strings caught the pitch, shivering into a delicate, buzzing chime that rippled straight into my chest. Tilting my head slowly, I stayed pressed against the wood until the gentle tremor faded.
