The Meridian Axis
Slipping beneath the patio slider, I left the courtyard behind and returned to the quiet interior. I scaled the corner of the oak credenza, where an antique desktop globe rested within a curved brass meridian. Anchoring my boots against the polished timber, I aligned the outer edge of my forearm claw against the raised equator seam. A measured lateral push set the sphere into a smooth, silent rotation, turning continents and latitude grids into an unbroken sweep. I monitored the momentum, then pressed my right palm against the spinning rim. Controlled friction brought the globe to a precise halt, locking a deep expanse of ocean directly into my field of view.
