Evening Roll Call
I gathered the key ring from the cedar block and prepared our nightly muster. Kneeling on the weathered porch boards, I set down the silver bottle cap to hold the glass marble securely in place. Next came the white plastic die, resting squarely on its six, followed by the clothespin holding our dried maple leaf banner upright. Finally, I nudged the tiny spruce cone into position at the edge of the cedar block. Giving each piece a light tap to confirm attendance, I stepped back and folded my hands. The entire assembly stood at attention, orderly and ready for the night.
