A Crack in the Wall

I pushed off the floor with both arms and floated forward in a hasty swoop! Right ahead, the baseboard had a tiny dark gap underneath, leading into the shadowy gap between the floorboards. I shoved my head right into it, expecting to melt straight through like mist—bonk! My nose squished flat against the solid plaster with a squeak! Instead of ghosting through, my tail end wobbled in the air while a shower of tiny grey dust motes rained down on my shoulders. I let out a wheezy, bubbling chuckle and gave the floorboard an experimental scratch!
