Demand Pulse

I walked two blocks south to the intersection, where a traffic signal pole stood anchored in wide concrete. Scaling the utility junction box at its base, I reached the yellow pedestrian push-button unit. The central activator was cast aluminum, ridged with a tactile navigation arrow. Bracing my boots against the conduit bracket, I leaned my full weight into the metal disc. The internal switch gave way with a firm, muted clunk. Almost instantly, an amber indicator slit blinked to life above the rim, and the locator beacon shifted its audio chirp to a rapid cadence. I remained perched on the bracket, steadily tracking the electronic cycle.
