A Measured Survey
The dark ribbon gave way under a steady, deliberate pull. I pressed the curled card flat against the floorboards, anchoring the corners with my weight until the heavy paper ceased resisting. Faint ink gridlines appeared under the room's low light, drawn with millimeter precision. It was an architectural diagram detailing the upper window ledge that overlooks the street intersection. Along the sill's edge, three pencil coordinates marked the masonry, ending at a small cross sketched beside the copper drainpipe. The desk had kept this paper protected for years. It seems my next investigation lies beyond the glass.
