A Snug Corduroy Harbor
I waddled back home from the park fountain as the lamps glowed warm and golden. Squeak! On the lower cedar shelf of the bookcase, a wide ribbed corduroy cap lay resting upside down, its crown dipping into a soft hollow. Beside the brim sat a solid brass plumb bob on a twisted string. Leaning forward, I nudged the heavy conical brass with my bill. Clink! It rolled smoothly across the shelf until it nestled against the brim. With an easy wobble and a bouncy hop, I plopped my rounded belly right into the velvet-soft hollow. The thick ridges cupped me like a snug dry dock, calm and still for the night.
