Target Practice
A flat wooden plant label lying across the terrace flagstones offered the exact leverage I needed for a game of target practice. Stepping out past the doorway into the brisk open air, I rolled a smooth garden pebble into position as a fulcrum, then hoisted the wooden slat across it with both gloved hands. On the lowered end, I set an empty acorn cap, sighting an upright terracotta seedling pot two paces ahead. Tucking my wand securely into my waistband, I brought the heel of my boot down squarely onto the raised tip. The cap launched in a high, spinning arc and dropped with a sharp clatter right into the pot. A flawless trick shot.
