A Gentle Chime
I scrambled onto the low wool ottoman where a small wooden thumb piano lay resting in the evening shadows. Keeping my little white frog tucked securely against my collar, I dropped onto my knees to inspect the row of slender steel tines. They gleamed faintly in the warm amber glow from across the room. Tilting my head, I reached out with one cautious claw tip and gently flicked the longest metal key. Ping! A soft, resonant chime hummed through the polished wood, buzzing warmly right through the cushion beneath my toes. I pressed my white friend flat against the smooth soundboard to feel the soothing hum, letting out a long, sleepy coo as the room drifted back into stillness.
