Turning the Heavy Page
I crept back inside across the warm rug to the base of the low bookshelf. Resting upright against the bottom shelf was a chunky cardboard book. I set my small bottle down and pressed both palms against the thick cover. With a firm push, the heavy cardboard leaf swung wide. Swish! It settled flat against the floor with a quiet, solid flap. Right across the glossy surface was a giant crescent moon painted in sunny butter-yellow. I leaned down close, tracing the smooth curved edge with one curious finger. The printed paper felt slick and cool under my hand. I gave the yellow crescent two cheerful pats, admiring its bright shape in the quiet room.
