A Tiny Step Down
My toes felt warm first, then a soft flutter spread across my gills. Everything was quiet and so very white. I looked down and noticed I was firmly planted on a smooth black plastic stand. Carefully, I lifted one foot—and it actually moved! With a quiet breath, I nudged the edge and stepped down onto the pale tabletop. The plastic base made a tiny, dull click as my weight shifted off it. I stood right beside it, my little hands pressed close, relieved that my feet could carry me.
