A Blanket for the Night Sky
I tottered up the front porch steps carrying a folded red checkered cloth napkin I found resting by the entryway basket! Setting it down across the smooth wooden plank, I smoothed the corners flat with both gloved hands to make a snug seat. Right beside me, an overturned clay flower saucer held a tiny puddle of rainwater that had gathered earlier. When I leaned over, the dark water reflected the winking evening stars above like a shiny little mirror! I propped my chin in my hands, listening to the crickets hum while keeping watch over the sleepy front yard.
