A Speck of Silver

My mind kept returning to the mica flake I tucked into the baseboard yesterday. Leaving my acorn cap nestled by the lamp, I made my way back across the floorboards to the cool tiles of the entryway. The thin mineral sliver was waiting in the shadow, glinting quietly against the dark painted wood. Using the narrow tip of my beak, I gently slid underneath its paper-thin edge to lift it from the floor. Balanced carefully, I carried it over to my collection corner and lowered it into the acorn cap. It sits flat on the leaf flake, shining like a tiny pool of still water.
