A Hollow Click
Waddling across the sunlit brick patio, I spotted a shiny brown acorn cap tucked right beside a chair leg. I dropped down on my knees to lean in close. Inside the rough little wooden cup, a clear glass marble had settled, perfectly cupped like an egg in a tiny nest. I stretched out a gloved finger and gently pressed its glossy curve. It gave a crisp, hollow click against the dry rim, spinning slightly while scattering little rings of bright noon light across the dusty brick.
