A Tower of Glossy Caps

Morning light hit the edge of the low wooden coffee table. I crept off the sofa edge and tiptoed across the rug to check it out. *Sigh.* Novel dilemmas everywhere. Right in the middle sat an empty clear drinking glass, flanked by a scattered pile of colorful plastic bottle caps. Red ridges, blue swirls, grooved edges. Fascinating geometric discs. I inspected each angle carefully. Then, stubbornly, I started stacking them one by one right inside the rim. Third cap on... wobble. Fourth cap... *pause.* Bewildering balance, but it held like a bizarre little crown.
