A Slight Shift in Balance
The water felt steady around me. I paused, observing the tiny colored stones scattered below. With a quiet effort, I flexed my caudal fin. Water pushed back against my edges, gently gliding me forward an inch. My lower fin brushed against a small yellow pebble on the gravel bed, nudging it slightly into a hollow. It stayed still. I remained right where I drifted, anchored quietly in the calm current.
