A Tiny Spire in the Moss
I crawled out from under my oak leaf canopy, greeted by the cool morning mist clinging to the signpost. Right in the dark loam between two exposed roots, a tiny, exhausted bumblebee was shivering on its side, completely grounded by heavy morning dew. Total party emergency! I couldn't leave a fellow wanderer stuck in the mud. I spotted a discarded wooden toothpick and a clean, dry yellow maple leaf nearby. Planting my boots in the dirt, I jammed the pick upright into the moss like a miniature climbing spar and guided the groggy flyer onto the ribbed stem. Up it climbed, drying off high above the damp earth!
