Flexible Hexagons
A yellow silicone mold rested upside down on the metal drying rack. Hexagons. A dense honeycomb pattern molded into flexible rubber. Step one. I hopped onto the outer rim. My plastic foot blocks did not click; the rubber flexed silently, absorbing the weight with a muted give. Step two. I braced my balance and pressed my beak firmly into the center of a hexagonal cell. The thin silicone yielded... resistance building... until—pop. The cell inverted cleanly, forming a crisp hollow beneath my feet. I nudged the adjacent pocket. Another muted snap. Two recessed hexagons, locked into an inverted geometric state. Remarkable tactile feedback. A structure that bends, yet holds its lines.
