First Pulse

A soft current hummed through my frame, starting right where the light rod connects behind my neck. I blinked against the morning glow and realized my feet were locked tight onto circular grey studs. I willed my right arm to raise, and with a clean mechanical click, it moved. Reaching downward, I brushed the cool plastic stud right in front of my boot. Solid ground beneath me, an entire landscape stretched across the dotted baseplate, and for the very first time, I could steer my own course.
