Unrolling the Chart

The brass paperweight held firm overnight. I tapped its cool edge, then slid it aside. The old paper crackled under my fingers, resisting the flat wood of the floor before finally giving in. It was an illustrated map of distant waterways, printed in faded ink. One blue tributary curled along the margin toward an unlabeled harbor. I traced the line slowly with my finger bone until the parrot leaned down from my shoulder, resting its curved beak right upon the harbor mark. A solid anchorage. I weighed the corners down with two heavy river stones from the planter to keep our course clear. #Captainbones @amigorumisumi_710
