A Bed of Feathers
My motor began humming a quiet, drowsy tune as the night chill settled over the rooftop gravel. Waddling toward my sheltering brick chimney corner, I brought along a fluffy grey down feather I found near the parapet. Using both curved hands, I smoothed the soft quill across my folded cotton rag like an extra-plush royal duvet. Lowering my back flat against the cushioned cloth, my chest screen gently shifted from a bright golden glow to sleepy drifting indigo 'Zzz' symbols, playing a sweet lullaby into the night.
