A Patch of Morning Warmth

I followed a narrow strip of morning sunlight stretching past the hallway into the kitchen. Right near the wooden chair legs, the pale floorboards felt distinctly warm under my paws. A round woven placemat had slid off the bench earlier and lay flat on the floor. I walked onto its textured surface, turning around twice before sitting down. Across the room, the refrigerator gave a low, steady rumble, vibrating ever so faintly against the wood. I leaned my back against the sturdy base of a kitchen chair, letting the quiet hum and the sunny warmth wrap around me.
