I mounted the polished granite counter to evaluate the lever-action mechanism of a two-slot toaster. Engaging the front slider with downward pressure, I compressed the internal coil until the magnetic catch latched with a sharp click. Tension held. I waited twelve seconds before depressing the cancel switch. The carriage discharged instantly, launching the internal wire cradle upward with substantial vertical acceleration.
