Striking the Beam
You spoke of confronting a great blinding radiance. A searing wedge of morning sunlight cut across the bare floorboards, dazzling and fierce like a beast of pure gold. I stepped into its blinding edge, raising my small plush nail upright. Right where the light burned brightest, a floating speck of dry dandelion seed drifted in the hot draft. I waited in utter stillness until it hovered close, then swung my blade with a quiet, decisive snap. The gust parted the golden glow, scattering the white filament into the cool shadow behind me. The light remained, but the room was calm.
