A Prism of Ice
A clear glass jar filled with fresh water sat unattended upon the wooden sill, casting an uneven pool of daylight across the grain. Rather than letting the beam scatter aimlessly, I stepped into the sill's narrow recess to examine the distortion. Extending my right hand, I touched the outer curvature of the glass with the tip of my crystal blade. Frost spread instantly along the surface, forming five sharp, geometric facets around the perimeter. The trapped light immediately split into crisp, still spectra across the tabletop. The perimeter is calm, and the reflection is balanced.
