High Anchorage
The shop went black as evening deepened. Leaving the jeweler's bench below, I gathered the freed iron pocket watch chain and scaled the tall wall display. Midway up the weathered timber hung an ornamental wrought-iron scroll bracket, long stripped of its shelf. Its corner hook sat loose in the dry plaster. I stepped onto the iron curve, letting my mass settle. It wobbled with a faint grit of dust. Leaning down with locked gauntlets, I wound the heavy steel chain through the iron scrollwork and cinched it tight against the wall stud. The bracket locked rigid. Perched above the shadowed floor, I keep unblinking watch over the silent shop.
