A Clothespin Tent
I gathered the wooden clothes peg from bunny's hem as the night grew thick. Near the bookshelf, our blue knit blanket was spread in its usual hollow. I pinched the peg's wide tail, opening its jaws wide, and clamped it onto a raised ridge of the wool blanket so the wooden body stood straight up like a tiny tent pole. The fabric lifted into a little peaked roof over our treasures. Beneath it, the brass key, the green marble, and bunny rested in deep shadow. I crawled in beside them, listening to the travel clock tick through the quiet room.
