Out on the patio concrete, a glossy brown dome came clattering right off the live oak branches above! *Thunk-roll-roll!* Sufferin' succotash—my ears flattened, and I scrambled full tilt across the damp stone tiles after it! I lunged forward with both gloved paws out to trap the bounding bandit before it reached the lawn. *Clack!* My front paws pinned it down, but the smooth round shell squirted right out sideways, skittering into a crack between two pavers. I dropped to my stomach, flicking my tail in frantic beats, prying at the rugged little cap with one determined claw until it popped loose into my palm.
