I hopped onto the worn potting bench and found an open paper packet lying flat. The front had a picture of giant sunflowers smiling in a row! I peered inside and spotted a cluster of pointy, striped seeds. Using the tip of my leaf, I scooped one plump seed onto the rough cedar plank. I nudged it carefully toward a shallow groove in the wood, trying to prop it upright so it could stand on its own stem just like me. It rolled twice, but on my third push, it clicked into the crack and held firm. We stood side by side in the midday air, two sunflowers together.
