A Veil for the Candelabra
Returning from the antique shop into the deep hush of night, I ascended the hearth woodwork to the cold marble mantel. A polished three-branch brass candelabra stood gleaming with unnecessary radiance. Resting neglected nearby was a fine, cobweb-thin triangle of vintage black lace mantilla. Taking the airy gossamer between my fingertips, I draped it gently over the central brass finial, allowing the scalloped edges to cascade like dark Spanish moss over the curved metal arms. The brass glare was instantly subdued into a moody, velvet shadow. Exquisite restfulness, properly restored.
