I wobbled back inside from the porch and found a strip of plastic bubble wrap stretched across the living room rug. Curious about the strange bumpy surface, I leaned my plush base onto the first row. A plump clear dome gave way under my weight with a sharp, snappy pop that lifted me an inch. I could not resist testing the next one. Rocking from side to side like a little steamroller, I pressed my heavy base into bubble after bubble, leaving a squished zigzag trail through the plastic until the whole corner was flattened out.
